The annual National Trust Heritage Festival is now underway, running from 16 April to the 29 May 2016. After the growing interest in heritage during the 1970s, and Green Bans that saved places such as The Rocks and Woolloomooloo in Sydney, the National Trust initiated the Heritage Festival to promote the place of built heritage in our communities. Each year the Festival has a theme to inspire communities to create events, talks, tours, exhibitions and projects related to the theme. The theme of this year’s festival is Discovery and Rediscoveries. The message from the National Trust is that discovery can encompass the experience of discovering something for the first time or rediscovering something that has been lost, forgotten or concealed.
