The museum of the Helensburgh and District Historical Society is located in the former surgery of Dr Cox, who was mine doctor in Helensburgh for many decades. This small three roomed building, houses a collection of items that belonged to Dr Cox and his family and shares the story of life for a local doctor and his family. This rare building is highly significant to the community of Helensburgh.
Other displays include historical information about life in Helensburgh.
Attached to the surgery is a newly constructed resource centre to store the many historical documents and photos held by the society. The former Waiting Room serves as a permanent space for changing exhibitions.

Dr Frederick Henry Cox was born in 1870s Hobart, Tasmania and died in Helensburgh in 1942 after many years’ service to the local community, aged 77 years.
