Wollongong Heritage and Stories

migration heritage project

117 Corrimal St, Wollongong NSW 2500

Opening Hours
First Thursday of each month.

If you would like to become involved with the Migration Heritage Project, monthly meetings are held at the office of the Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra on the first Thursday of each month.

The Migration Heritage Project does not collect items, but has developed a significant image resource based on private collections.  This database of images, produced as a result of project research and interviews, is an important resource that records migrant history and personal stories of the region.

The objects included in this virtual museum reflect the eleven themes of migration, explored in the Migration Heritage Project publication Every Story Counts. They include people, places and objects as the concept of cultural heritage encompasses diverse forms.

The Illawarra Migration Heritage Project Inc, formed in 2001 as a non-profit group. The group has used grants and pro-bono contributions from members and organisations to research, promote and facilitate a wider understanding of migrant cultural heritage in Wollongong and the region.
