The official name of this technical instrument is JEOL JEM 2000FX 200kV analytical scanning transmission electron microscope. It was utilised in the BlueScope Central Laboratory at Port Kembla between 1984 and 2004 for examining the microstructure of steels.
The instrument had a resolution of 0.28 nm (equating to magnifications of up to x 850,000). Applications ranged from product development and research to problem-solving for both BlueScope production and customer processes.
It is now part of the BlueScope heritage collection and can be seen at their Australia’s Industry World visitors centre, where you can learn more about the history of the steel industry in the region.
